Inspired by Trinity Laban’s Top 12 of 2019, I made a list of Company Concentric’s Top 6 of the year and decided to share it with you in 6 pictures:

6) THE LAUNCH
A first important achievement of the year 2019 was the launch of our company logo, designed by our Belgian friend, graphic designer Félicie Bouckaert. We then created our social media accounts, and printed the company T-shirts we had been dreaming of 👕 These are still on sale, and each T-shirt costs £15. Please drop us a line on our contact page if you want to support our work by buying one!

5) PLAY ON
Mikaela Livadiotis and I created Play On in January 2019, at The Place’s Resolution festival. The colourful set made by Sally Somerville-Woodiwis and matching costumes by Akshy Marayen came back to life in March, when Giulia Coti Zelati and Miranda Sheehy, co-directors of Tiny Dances, shot a 30-second dance film based on Play On. 📽 Filming it in a beautiful room at London’s Royal College of Music felt a bit like diving in a dolls’ house – the perfect setting for Company Concentric’s most playful piece! Click here to watch this tiny dance, and browse Tiny Dances’ Vimeo channel for a feast of bite-size dance films.

4) RESOLUTION
Another highlight of this year was to get offered a performance date at Resolution festival for the third year in a row! Supported by Rosas, Pavilion Dance South West and The Place, we spent the past 4 months developing a new show, Remainder, across 3 cities, in 2 different countries. We can’t wait to share this piece with you in a month’s time, when it hits The Place’s stage! If you haven’t already, please click here to book your ticket for the show on Tuesday 28th January 📆 Your presence in the audience really means a lot to us! On that night, you will also see exciting dance works by our friends Erin Pollitt of Matter of Fact Dance, Nathan Cornwell & Dominic Harrison. Tuesday 28/01/2020 is an evening not to be missed!

3) DANCE FESTIVAL CROYDON
Last October, Shivaangee and I had the pleasure to restage our duet Swapping Shadows at Dance Festival Croydon. Akshy Marayen made new pairs of see through trousers for this performance, which gave the piece a fresh look, while Vanessa Morton recreated Sally Somerville-Woodiwis’ lighting design in no time! If you’re around Edinburgh in May, you will get a chance to see Swapping Shadows at Innovations Dance Platform. We’re proud to say that our company’s first piece is still alive as it keeps travelling around and beyond London. Thanks to Carlota Monteiro Machado of Quinzena de Dança de Almada for kick-starting the piece’s journeys

2) COMPANY CLASSES
Mikaela, Shivaangee and I devised and taught our own company classes last summer. A memorbale moment in this process was when our costume and theatre designers joined in 😀 We hope to team teach again in the new year and I personally look forward to taking classes with my friend choreographer Andre Kamienski. Training with him and his company will certainly get me ready for Resolution festival in January!

1) FRIENDSHIP
When I asked Mikaela what she would put in the company’s top 6 of 2019, her answer was meeting and working with Shivaangee, getting to know her and count her as a new friend 😊 From sunny lunchtimes at Rosas to countless laughters in the studio, Mikaela and Shivaangee shared way more than rhythmic scores and Belgian frites over the last few months. They gathered hundreds of ideas for a spoof version of Remainder... but wait for it! You will enjoy it best if you watch the original show first 😉
Friendly reminder: you only have 10 days left to book your ticket for Shivaangee’s show (on Thursday 9th January), and 4 weeks left to support Remainder by booking another Resolution festival ticket or purchasing your Company T-shirt (via my contact page). Book both shows in one go to get 20% off the total cost!
All done? Ready? Now bring on 2020 🎉 Let’s spend more time creating things together, learning from each other, laughing and doing what we love in good company! We wish you a smashing new year and look forward to seeing you at The Place, London, on the 9th and 28th January 📆
